Hubert George Willmann, age 88, a resident of Lisle, IL since 1968, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton, IL. He was born October 17, 1928 in Indianapolis, IN. Beloved husband of the late Gisela Grundei-Willmann and the late Mildret C. Willmann, loving father of Jutta (Ron) Spanke of Wheaton, IL, step-father of Susana (Sankaran 'Jeena') Srinivas, Pablo (Renae) Araya, Carol Large, and was preceded by stepson, Dr. Daniel Araya. Grandfather of Priya and Arjun Srinivas, Leanne (Gamaliel) Escalante, Alexandra and Sophia Araya, Daniel and Natalie Large, Katherine Davis and the late Christian Spanke and the late Chris Davis, devoted son of the late George R. and Kathryn (nee Hubert) Willmann, fond brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend of many. A native of Indianapolis, IN, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps immediately after graduating from Shortridge High School and served two years during the tail end of the World War II era. After serving, he attended Purdue University in Lafayette, IN and received a BS in Forestry. Huberts earlier jobs included lifeguard, forest firefighter, deep sea diver-welder, and a paper millworker. Starting in 1953, Hubert operated a rubber plantation in Liberia for Goodyear for 2 years. After Africa, and some European travels, he settled in Chicago where he met and married Gisela Grundei. There he worked as an insurance adjuster for Liberty Mutual, and then as a risk manager for Balban & Katz for 13 years before joining Pittway Corp., Northbrook, IL. Hubert retired as corporate risk manager at Pittway in 1993. His first wife, Gisela passed away in 1981. He subsequently met Mildret Araya, of Naperville. They were married from 1985 until her death in 2016. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Lisle, IL. Hubert was a lifelong avid golfer. But more than anything else, he loved family and he loved to travel - visiting many countries in six out of the seven continents. Funeral Information Visitation Friday, February 3, 2017, 4:00-9:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL with a VFW service on Friday at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 12:30 PM in the funeral home with Fr. Larry Brunette officiating. A luncheon reception will follow at Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, 908 Jackson Ave., Naperville, IL 60540, (630) 355-7664. Family and friends will meet Monday, February 6, 12:00 PM at the funeral home and will go in procession to St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove, IL for a 1:00 PM graveside service and military honors.
