Victor "Vic" M. Whitesel Obituary

     Victor M. "Vic" Whitesel, 89, formerly of Mifflintown, a dedicated educator and beloved member of the community, passed away on May 30, 2023, in the ER at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. Vic was born February 16, 1934, to Martin & Carrie Zimmerman Whitesel in Licking Creek.

     Vic retired from teaching, having spent 28 of those years as a special education teacher in the Juniata School District. His passion for helping those in need and providing equal opportunities for all inspired countless students and earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

     Throughout his life, Vic was known for his strong work ethic. He showcased his skills in carpentry and sawmilling, imparted knowledge as a World Book salesperson, maintained the school district's facilities, and served for 62 years as an assistant scout master of Troop 124 and several years as rifle range instructor at the Seven Mountains. Boy Scout Camp. Vic's dedication extended far beyond the classroom, and his commitment to serving others was a testament to his character.

     Vic found joy in several hobbies and pastimes. Camping, bowling, woodworking, golfing, hunting, and fishing were all passions that allowed him to unwind and find solace in nature. Additionally, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball.

     Vic's faith played a central role in his life. At the age of 12, he embraced Christianity during catechism class at St. Stephen's Church. Later, he rededicated his life to God at Cedar Grove under the guidance of Pastor Heidler. His spiritual journey provided him with strength, guidance, and a profound sense of purpose.

     On January 16th, 1954, Vic embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship when he married the love of his life, Carol Varner Whitesel and they had 5 children. Vic's role as a husband, father, and grandfather brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

     Vic is survived by his loving wife Carol, a daughter, Karen (Samuel) Varner, and 4 sons, Jeff (Kathy), Keith (Amanda), Jari (Nicole), and Brent (Avis), seven grandchildren, Adam, Chad, Courtney, Kayla, Jared, Caia, and Tyler, and four great-grandchildren.    He relished their accomplishments, celebrated their milestones, and provided unwavering support. His presence will be sorely missed, but his legacy will forever be carried forward by his loving family.

     Vic is also survived by his sisters, Joyce Steward and Maxine Varner and brother, Donald Whitesel and is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Vivian Young.

    A celebration of life will be held at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown on Sunday, June 4 at 3:00 pm with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm.
