Spencer A. Fink Naperville, Illinois Obituary

Spencer A. Fink

Spencer Fink, age 26, passed away on January 14th, 2017 from an accidental overdose. His battle with substance abuse, and ultimately addiction, lasted the better part of a decade, but he fought with real courage for the last year. Spencer was a caring, funny, smart, young man with the potential for greatness. He had a smile and charm that could light up a room. Spencer did not want to leave this world. Is it true that everything happens for a reason? The reality of Spencer's death is devastating, and the loss of this wonderful young man is hard to fathom. Wherever he went, people loved him. He was in the thoughts and prayers of so many, but the disease of addiction is merciless. It is up to us to open our minds and hearts to those who are still sick and suffering. Spencer would not want us to cry for him. He would want us to fight for him. To use our voices to speak up about what is happening; to speak the truth. He would want us to tell his story the story of a bright young man, loved by so many, who wanted to be well. Spencer was born at home, early in the morning on Wednesday, March 28, 1990 to a clashing of cymbals. He was the most darling little boy; except when he was being a little terror. As he got a bit older he was an aspirant pinewood derby champion and a competitive golfer he could really drive it off the tee, and mostly straight. He connected with music of many genres, tried his hand at writing both poetry and prose with some success, but could barely sketch a stick figure. He was incredibly smart and applied himself occasionally while earning his undergraduate degrees in psychology and criminal justice, but he really loved studying the law for two years at LSU. If you knew Spencer you probably loved him; there was absolutely no staying angry with him for very long. He will be truly missed. Spencer is survived by his loving parents, Russ and Sandy Fink; his brother, Trevor (Madeline) Fink and sister, Katelyn Fink; his grandmother, Elaine Fink; his uncles and aunts, Eric (Nancy) Fink, Dave (Cindy) Block, Syl Block, Jr. and Debbie (Brian) McCarthy; as well as numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred Fink, Syl and Pat Block. Spencer was born at home, early in the morning on Wednesday, March 28, 1990 to a clashing of cymbals.
