Harold Thomas Lewis Obituary

Harold Thomas Lewis, 90, Linacy, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.




Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Catherine (MacDonald) Lewis. In his late teens, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where obtain his Electrical Technician certification and served for five years. Upon honourable discharge, he was employed with the American Air Force base in Stephenville for several years. Following, he moved to Labrador City where he was employed by the IOC Iron Ore company for several years. In 1963 he married his wife, Corina and they moved back to New Glasgow, shortly there after they purchased their family farm in Linacy. Prior to retirement in 1996, Harold was employed with the former Scott Paper, Abercrombie for 27 years. Following retirement, he continued to operate the family farm and his portable sawmill operation until the automobile accident in 1997. He and Corina were faithful members of the former St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church and members of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Harold was a quiet, resilient, hard-working man who now enjoys the promise made to him in baptism. For Harold, “life has changed; not ended!”




Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Corina Lewis; daughter, Mary Jane Lewis (Tim Chapman), Markham, Ont.; son, Leo “Billy” Lewis, Linacy; grandson, Mitchell Lewis (Margaret), Mount Albert, Ont.; sister, Catherine “Kit” Thibeau, Kippens, N.L.; many nieces and nephews.




Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mary Jane, Claire and Lillian; brothers, Allan, Joe, Lornie and John; sisters-in-law, Mildred, Mary, Doris and Rita; brothers-in-law, Joe, Archie, Arthur and Leo.




Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 2 in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow with Father Thomas A. MacNeil presiding. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with reception to follow in the parish hall.
