He was an SRA and MAI real estate appraiser in Denver from 1971-2002 and established his own appraisal business in 1984. He served as president of the Denver Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers in 1986 and was awarded the Society's "Appraiser of the Year" award in 1990. He was also a longtime member of the Colorado Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.

Lyle and Sandy were residents of Denver's Park Hill neighborhood for more than fifty years and Lyle served as Chair of Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. from 2000-2002 and again in 2008.

Lyle was a classic car enthusiast and lovingly restored a 1958 Chevrolet Impala, which he displayed at numerous classic car shows over many years.
