Michael "Moon" J. Russell

<p>Michael “Moon” Russell Jr, 83, formerly of Hungry Hill in Springfield passed on May 29th. He was born in Springfield to the late Michael J. Russell Sr and Helen (Dowd) Russell. Moon served the City of Springfield for 30 years as a firefighter until his retirement. He was a diehard New York Yankees and secret New York Giants fan, enjoyed his biannual trips to Florida, and time spent with friends-especially in the garage with beverages shared. Moon was also especially proud of his Irish heritage and will be remembered as a neighborhood fixture of Hungry Hill in Springfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judith (Caban) Russell, and brother Thomas “Telephone Tom” Russell. To carry on his memory, he leaves his family including son Michael Russell III and his wife Maureen of Wilbraham; brother John “Roscoe” Russell and wife Susan of Springfield, and his sister Mary Perron and husband Paul of Springfield. He also leaves his grandchildren Michael Russell IV, Katie Russell, and Alyssa Russell as well as his companion of many years Marilyn Dymski of Naples, FL. Family and friends are invited to gather at Sampson Funeral home, 710 Liberty St from 8:30-10:30am on Monday June 5th for a period of visitation, his funeral will follow beginning at 11am at Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. He will then be laid to rest at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee. Memorial contributions in his memory are kindly directed to Shriners Hospital for Children: 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.</p><p></p>
