Barbara and her brother Richard were raised in The Dalles, OR.

Barbara graduated high school in 1953 as Valedictorian at The Dalles High School.  She was active in student activities and music.  Barbara briefly attended Oregon State University to study Home Economics.

Barbara married Stanley Gene Henkle on June 10, 1956.  They gave birth to their daughter Denise Laurel Henkle on June 27, 1957.  Besides being a farm wife and mother, Barbara worked outside the home.  The family moved to Boardman, Oregon in 1963 and established a cattle ranch that raised Polled Herefords, Appaloosa Horses and Blue Heeler cattle dogs.  Barbara worked for their best friends Carroll and Shirley Donovan at the C&D Drive in in Boardman for 8 years and later worked at the Boardman Pharmacy for Ray Michael for 20 years.

Barbara was active in Tillicum Club for many years.  She was a very talented cook and crafter.  Barb was known for her beautiful quilts, sewing skills and her baking skills.  Her gingersnaps were legendary and requested as Christmas presents.
