Margot Christine GARMSEN Obituary

Margot Christine Garmsen (Jan. 12, 1925, age 98, née Momsen), born in Flensburg, Germany, grew up in Danzig (today's Gdansk) and passed away in Victoria BC after an illness. Margot was a long-time active Unitarian, starting in the late 1960s in Halifax N.S. She was also very involved with the Red Cross, teaching children with learning disabilities, and working at Dalhousie University in a biochemistry lab. She and her husband Harro Garmsen (also from Flensburg) were avid sailors. Margot was a long-time active Unitarian, starting in the late 1960s in Halifax N.S. She was very involved with the Red Cross, teaching children with learning disabilities, and working at Dalhousie University in a biochemistry lab. She and her husband Harro Garmsen (also from Flensburg) were avid sailors. She was predeceased by husband Harro whose career was spent nation-wide with the CBC; her sister Jutta Schwabe and brother-in-law Christian Schwabe; and her sister-in-law Frauke Garmsen. Still living in Germany are her other sister-in-law Eike and husband Gerd von Hacht and her niece Tina von Hacht and her husband. Left behind are her daughter Susanne, grandson Christoph Garmsen, great-granddaughter Alexis Sinclair, and nephew Michael and niece Stephanie Schwabe.


A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, Friday 7 July in the Lion Hall of the First Unitarian Church of Victoria, 5575 West Saanich Road.  Reception to follow in hall.  Finger food contributions welcome.
