John George Walsh

<p>John George Walsh, born on September 9, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on the morning of May 27, 2023, at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, comforted by his cousin, Janel R. Mulligan.</p><p>John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Georgia (Gerry) L. Walsh, and his parents, Margaret and David Walsh. He was survived by many cousins and friends who were like family to him.</p><p>John’s thirst for knowledge led him on the path of education and service. He dedicated six years to studying at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary before earning a bachelor’s degree in history from St. Joseph’s University. He furthered his education at Temple University, where he obtained a master’s degree in education. John’s passion for teaching led him to become an influential figure in the lives of his students. For over 30 years, he taught history, government, and geography at John Paul Jones Middle School in Philadelphia, PA. Throughout his career, John actively participated in various committees, councils, and professional organizations, leaving a lasting impact on education in his community.</p><p>Upon his retirement in 1997, John relocated to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he continued his dedication to community involvement and advocacy. He served in various capacities within the Colonial East Homeowners Association, Inc. as President and on the Executive Board. John also dedicated his time to lobbying for and serving as an officer of the Delaware Manufactured Homeowners Association. He was also an American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) volunteer lobbyist. John’s passion for civic engagement and advocacy led him to become a member of the Delaware State Health Resources Board, Leased Land Homeowners Association, Delaware League of Women Voters, Cape Henlopen Elks, and Common Cause. John sincerely enjoyed reading, watching movies, and watching television while not engaging in community endeavors.</p><p>Instead of flowers, his family asks that you donate to any of the causes he worked closely with.</p>

Note: This is the first Celebration of Life for Mr. Walsh. During this event, light appetizers, sandwiches, wine, and beer will be served. This will be an opportunity for attendees to gather, share memories, and pay their respects. A second Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the Lewes Senior Center, Lewes, DE from 5p to 8p. The celebration will be the same as it was for the first celebration, with light appetizers, sandwiches, wine and beer. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have expressed their condolences and support during this difficult time. Your presence and participation in these Celebrations of Life will be deeply appreciated as we come together to honor and remember John's remarkable life.
