Martin Henry Fowler Obituary

Martin Henry Fowler, born March 18th 1937 in New York and raised in Massachusetts. He and his family summered in Maine on the small island of Islesboro, where many family members and close friends still reside to this day. Maine was a large part of Marty’s life. Not only did he spend his summers walking the shore line and working for the Tarratine Club of Dark Harbor, he attended Hebron Academy, a boarding school in Maine. The cold weather of Maine led Marty and his mother to head to California where the weather was warm and the people were friendly. Marty would finish high school in California and often remarked how moving to California was the life change he needed.

After high school, Marty joined the U.S. Army. Because of his ability to speak French and read Latin, he was stationed at the Fort Ord language Institute in Monterey, CA. While in the Army, he earned a marksman commendation. After leaving the Army, he spent a few years in the reserves while attending Cal Poly Pomona where he earned a bachelor's degree in business.

While working his way through college, he met and married Suzie. Together he and Suzie had two children and one St. Bernard who were all loved very much. The family moved from California to Oklahoma and back to Massachusetts as Marty climbed the corporate ladder. Finally, they all came back to California where Marty finished out his career as an executive at a household products company. Marty, a company man, would never let any competitor's products into his home.

One of his great loves of course was golf. He was a member of the Diablo Country Club where he proudly won the Northern California Gold - Putter. His love of golf led him to play with professionals such as, Curtis Strange, Arnold Palmer and many others. So, it was no surprise that the Sunshine State was in his future.

After several decades of working for fortune 500 companies, Marty retired from corporate America in 1991. Shortly thereafter, Marty and his wife Kristina moved to Stuart, Florida to enjoy golf, boating, and all that the Sunshine State has to offer.

An entrepreneur and businessman, Marty was not idle in retirement. He soon built a small chain of successful gas station convenience stores which operated in Martin and St. Lucie Counties for over 30 years.

Although Marty traveled extensively during his career, he and Kristina also traveled around the country and Europe as they visited family and friends, and enjoyed many golf courses along the way.

However, Marty’s favorite place to visit was his own backyard. He could be found sitting poolside, watching the boat traffic, enjoying a cigar, an espresso martini, listening to the news and expanding his knowledge by reading one of the many books in his vast collection.

Marty is survived by his wife Kristina of 26 years. Also surviving is his daughter Kelly Middleton (Mark), Son Theodore Fowler (Sheila) and three grandchildren, Theodore Jr., Jack and Kassandra.

A Celebration of Marty’s Life will be held on Tuesday June 27th, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at All County Funeral Home, Stuart, Florida.
