<p>WALLINGFORD - Arleen Katherine Whelan, 84, departed this life on May 28, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. She was born in New Haven, CT on April 12, 1939 to the late Joseph and Mildred (Elmblad) Whelan. </p><p>&nbsp; </p><p>Arleen graduated as Valedictorian from West Haven High School and went on to further her education at Southern CT State University.&nbsp; She graduated from SCSU with a Master's in Education and was a dedicated teacher at primary schools within the Wallingford Public Schools system. She also worked as Deputy Registrar for the Wallingford Registrar of Voters for 14 years until her retirement in 2019.&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp; </p><p>Arleen was a devoted daughter to her mother and best friend to her cousin, Kathleen. She was also a devoted church community member at St. Michael Church in New Haven.&nbsp; She enjoyed traveling and during her lifetime was able to see Europe and make numerous trips to Disney. </p><p><br> Arleen is survived by her cousins, John Rathjens (Robin) and Susan Bonato, as well as 4 great-cousins, Marco Bonato, Alexa Bonato, Anton Rathjens and Eliza Rathjens, whom she cherished.&nbsp; In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her cousin, Kathleen Whelan Rathjens. </p><p><br> A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 beginning at 4:00 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford.&nbsp; Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arleen's name to St. Michael Church in New Haven (29 Wooster Pl, New Haven, CT 06511).
