Viola Poindexter Obituary

Viola Marion Poindexter affectionately called “Vi” was born in Richmond, Virginia to the late Willie and Sarah Brockington. She was the eldest of six children.

Viola attended Richmond Public Schools and was a 1962 graduate Armstrong High School. After graduation she held several jobs until gaining employment at the Hermitage Methodist Home on June 23, 1967 where she worked and moved up the ranks until she retired in August 2001 with 34 years of service. She was a loyal and dedicated worker. After her retirement from the Hermitage Methodist Home she became a child care provider to many children including her own grandchildren who affectionately called her “ Vivi”., kids she loving spoke of after they left her care and who would drop by occasionally to check on her.

Viola joined Moore street Baptist Church and attended regularly until joining Trinity Baptist Church and was an active member of the Church Interest Group until she became ill. She was truly a virtuous woman and loved the lord with her whole heart, mind and soul. Her faith was unshakable.

Viola was known for her love of cooking and baking and that of being a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan.

Viola was proceeded in death by her parents Willie and Sarah Brockington, son, Ronald “ Ronnie” Brockington, sister, Carolyn Taylor and brother, Byron Venable . She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Arthur “Bo” Poindexter, her devoted children Sherida Johnson (Ronnie) Tanya Carter and Aaron Brockington, Sr., (Ignacia “Nikki”), 2 bonus sons Warren Poindexter and Avery Brooks, 12 grandchildren, Ronniesha Redwood, Keneisha Carter, Aaron Brockington, Jr, Sharmelle Hicks, Sara Brockington, Erica Reid, (Anthony,Sr.),Jeremy Carter, Ronniesha and Janiesha Johnson, Benjamese and Mercedes Boyd, Nicholas Turner, 3 bonus grandchildren Madisyn and Ava Brooks and Brandon Poindexter, 22 great grand children, OmarRic Edwards, Quiniyra Liles, Makari Carter, Sa’Miyah and Sa’Niyah Webb, Zariyah Charity, Kennadi Carter, Noelle Payne, Jayden Carter, Daron and Aaronaj’a Brockington, Damonte and Danny Womack, Danquante Hicks, Tiyona Robinson, Bryson Boyd, Anthony, Jr, Harper, Heiress and Ace Reid, Madison, Mahogonie, Mckenzie and Mylasia Johnson, sisters, Alease Robinson, Willis Price (Donald) and Denise Johnson, sister in laws, Cheryl Ali ( Khalifah), Gwendolyn Ali and Sylvia “Rose” Poindexter, brother in law Linwood Johnson,Sr. (Barbara), nieces, nephews and devoted friends John “Steve” Lewis and Bessie Neblett and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
