Elwood Francis Oliver, 82, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 after a brief illness, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, with his daughters by his side.

Elwood was the son of Susan (DeKalb) Smith and Frank Smith. He was born in New York City, New York. He was raised in Fairfield and Bridgeport, Connecticut. He attended Bridgeport Public Schools and was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1959. In 1965, Elwood married the love of his life, Virginia Mae Saunders of Waterbury and raised two daughters, Kimberly A. Oliver and Adrienne L. Oliver.

Elwood worked for Read’s Department Store as a warehouse manager, Sikorsky Aircraft, where he retired after 36 years of employment, and he also worked as a delivery driver for Autoparts International until 2020.

Elwood enjoyed listening to jazz. He was an avid model train and helicopter enthusiast. He was able to fix anything. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Elwood is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Virginia, his mother Susan Smith, and brother Leon Smith. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, his sister, Deborah Blackwell, family friend Valerie A. Barnes, and a host of nieces and nephews.
