LINCOLN – Richard T. “Dick” Laffey, 78, died of pancreatic cancer May 27, 2023, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born February 27, 1945, in Bangor, the son of the late James H. and Barbara J. (Stimpson) Laffey.


Dick graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1963. He was a U.S. Army Reservist from August, 1966, until July 27, 1971. He joined the Bangor Fire Department in July, 1967 and retired as an Assistant Fire Chief, December, 1987. He then went to work for K & T Fire Equipment, Island Falls. He retired in the fall of 2009.

On October 17, 1970, he married Susan Jane Russell, of Brewer. They celebrated over 52 years of marriage until his passing.


Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens. As an avid gun enthusiast, Dick had quite a collection.


Surviving Dick, in addition to his devoted wife, Susan, are the son and daughter he never had, Justin S. Morse and his wife, Loraine; and their daughters, Vanessa Morse, 13, and Vivian Morse, 9, of Lincoln, who he loved like granddaughters; brother, Robert Laffey, of Hampden; niece, Joan Laffey, of Hampden; nephew, Paul Laffey and his wife, Kendra; and their two daughters, Kaycee and Charlee, of Brewer; sisters-in-law, Peggy and Louis Hewes, of Brewer, and Paula Dwelley, of Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Barbara Laffey, of Hampden; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.


The family would like to thank Buddy and Linda Webb, Allen Fournier, Lynda and Frank Ingraham, Galen and Joyce Sanborn, William Hannon, and Arthur and Valerie Webster for their support during this journey.


The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor; please attend in casual attire.
