Ramona M. Spartz

Ramona Spartz, age 93 of Kranzburg, SD, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023

Funeral mass will be 10:30 am, Friday, June 2, 2023 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg with Father Christopher Hughes as celebrant. Music will be by Leanne Giessinger, Barry Mack and Sloan Mack.

Visitation will be 4-7:00 pm, with a 6:30 pm, scripture service and rosary, Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown, SD.

Pallbearers will be Chad Novy, Mark Schultz, Mathias Lindberg, Kasey Kolb, Derek Spangler and Nick Miley.

Ramona Marie Spartz was born May 26, 1930 in Watertown, South Dakota to Peter J. and Susan P. (Heyn) Mack. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Kranzburg from 1936 to 1944.

On June 2, 1949 she married Matthew Spartz at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The couple raised nine children on their farm. Her beloved husband passed away on December 21, 1991.

Ramona loved her garden, flowers, canning and card making (which she got her daughter-in-law and grandchildren hooked on). She made flowers for weddings and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and baking. Ramona loved being involved in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. She attended their baptisms, birthdays, first communion, confirmations, graduations and weddings. Birthdays were her favorite to spend with others! She cherished visiting her friends over coffee and her Birthday gang.

Ramona was an avid Minnesota Twins, some of them she met when she was 87 and 89! She would have made a great Vikings cheerleader also!

Her greatest enjoyment during retirement was Father Pio and Mother Angelic on EWTN.

Ramona is survived by her children, Charlotte (Terry) Lindberg of Strandburg, SD, Stella Sterry of Bakersfield CA, Kathleen (Marty) Novy of Revillo, SD, Brenda Schultz of Revillo, SD, Bryon (Denice) Spartz of Hereford, AZ, Rodney (Julie) Spartz of Kranzburg, SD, Monica (Les) Hill of Kranzburg, SD, Carla (Gerald) Kolb of Goodwin, SD and Delores (Mike) Penny of Brandon, SD; 30 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Maris Stella Larsen of Waseca, MN, Pete (Donna) Mack of Kranzburg, SD, Tom Mack of Olivia, MN, Doug (Penny) Mack of Watertown SD and Diane (Doug) Stormo of Watertown, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, George Spartz; her grandson, Ryan Raastad; son-in-law, Lowell Schultz; brothers, Jerome and Syl Mack; sisters-in-law, Marie Mack, Anne Mack and Corrine Mack; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Larson.
