Joseph Edward Timothy Goodall Obituary

Joseph Edward Timothy Goodall, (86) passed away peacefully on May, 19th, 2023 after a short illness with his loving family by his side.

Born June 10th, 1936 to Odelia & Henry Goodall of St. Petersburg, Florida. Joe grew up in St. Petersburg along with three brothers & three sisters. He attended St. Paul’s High School and graduated class of 1955, where he was part of the letterman’s club, lettered in basketball and football , played the position of Quarterback and halfback on the football team, and was crowned “King of the Prom”. Joe developed lifelong friendships from his time at St. Paul’s which he recalled fondly.

At age 14 he had begun working at Goodall Brothers Transfer and Warehouse Company in St. Petersburg, Florida. Goodall Brothers was the Family Business, established in 1926 by his father Henry and his father’s brother Timothy. He worked alongside his brothers John, Bill and Mike as well as his nephews and sister in-laws until his retirement in 1998. Even after retirement you could still find him working at Goodall Brothers to be close to his family.

Joe was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 as an IS Radio Operator. He was stationed in Boston and received an MKM (Marksman M1) and Good Conduct Medal. He then returned home to Florida.

In 1967, Joe met and married the love of his life Patricia Ann Hurst. They would also build their dream home that year and remain married for 48 wonderful years. Joe resided there till his death.

In 1969, they adopted their first daughter Lisa Marie and two years later in 1971 their second daughter Julie Ann.

Joe had many interests throughout his 86 years and was very adventurous. In his early years he was quite the barefoot water skier, which he did well into his fifties. He once skied over 50 miles during a skiathon with the tampa ski-bees. He loved scuba diving and earned his NAUI certification to dive in 1977, with his last dive being in Belize with his daughter and son in law when he was 70 years old. He had a passion for building and racing tunnel boats with his brother John, they raced them across the state of Florida together. He loved anything mechanical and enjoyed working on, collecting, and showing antique cars. He belonged to the Pinmar & Corvette car clubs earning many trophies for his beloved cars. He loved driving and never turned down a good road trip.

Traveling was a great love for Joe and Pat. They enjoyed traveling to all 48 states in their motorhome. Cruising was another passion, his wife, friends, and family enjoyed over (30) cruises together.

In his later years he turned his love to the sport of golf, even getting a hole in one after playing golf for only 5 years. Many Fridays you would find him at Mainland’s golf course with his golf buddies Andera, Drew, Jenna, and Ron. He never liked to admit when he would lose because he had to buy the beer and hotdogs.

Joe was also a huge hometown sports fan. He loved the Buccaneers, Lightning and never passed up the chance to join us at a Rays game. He’d partake in our little gambling game called “New Ball” and usually won. Even near the end, he’d still ask “What’s the score of the Ray’s game?”

He loved his jigsaw puzzles (he got the love from his mom) and spent many hours with his daughters, son in-law and his pride and joy his grandson Michael completing them.

Joe is survived by his two daughters Lisa (Timothy) White of St. Petersburg, Julie MC Coy of Ocean Shores WA and grandson Michael Mc Coy.

Brother John Goodall of St. Petersburg, sister Marie (Don) Mulholland of St. Petersburg, sister Rose (Edward) Coryn of Clearwater and brother Michael (Donna) Goodall of Clearwater and sister-in-law Sue Goodall of Massachusetts. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Odelia Goodall, his loving wife of 48 years Patricia Goodall, brother William Goodall, sister Frances Goodall and sister-in-law Ginger Goodall. His memory will live on through his daughters, son-in-law, and grandson as well as a huge extended family of nieces and nephews. Joe was of strong Catholic faith which gave him incredible patience, kindness, caring, compassion, and empathy as well as an unwavering love for his family and friends. When his time came, he was at peace knowing he would see his wife, family and friends who went before him.

A special thank you goes to the Springs of Boca Ciega Bay for their loving care, he was truly loved and cared for by each one of you and for that his family is forever grateful.

Their will be a mass in his honor on June 17th, 2023, at Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle in the chapel (Our Lady’s Chapel) at 10am at 5815 5th Avenue North, followed by a celebration of a life at APG Electric, Clearwater, Florida.
