Joseph Irvin Henderson Obituary

Joseph Irvin, Henderson, CD

Joseph Irvin Henderson passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023 at the age of 90.  He was born May 6, 1933, in Saint John, New Brunswick, the son of Bruce Irvin Henderson and Thelma Henderson (White).  Joe grew up in Henderson Settlement, spending his youth there and young adulthood in Saint John.  He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1956.  That same year he married Beatrice Marilyn Cathline.  They began their married life in Ottawa where Joe was stationed with the Air Force.  They subsequently spent time in France, Manitoba and Chatham.  Joe retired from the Air Force after 24 years of service, and they moved to Fredericton; where he worked for the legislative assembly as a security guard.  After his second retirement they moved to Saint John.

Having grown up in the countryside, Joe retained his love of the outdoors for his entire life.  He enjoyed simply being in nature, either walking or exploring backwood trails on his ATV.  He built a camp on land where his family homestead had been, and it was his greatest pleasure to spend time there.  He will be missed by all those who knew him.  He is survived by his sister, Audrey Shillington (Henderson), his daughter Colleen Henderson, his son Barry Henderson, his grandson Mathew Stranach, his granddaughter Sarah Meyer and their families as well as his nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Joseph's Life will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home on Thursday, June 1, from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.  Interment will take place privately at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.
