Carol A. Ratte Obituary

With deepest sadness, we announce the passing of Carol Ratte, aka Gram Dukes, our loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on May 27, 2023. She left us while sleeping peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence with her family by her side. She was in her 77th year.

Born in Providence, on June 28, 1945, Carol touched the lives of everyone she met, especially her husband. Carol was introduced to Joseph Ratte, Sr. through her sister Joyce. It was love at first sight. Joseph quickly ditched his girlfriend of three years to date Carol. He had eyes for no other since that day. They married in Providence on February 4, 1966. They moved to Providence shortly after to start their family.

A ‘wild-child’ growing up, she visited night clubs as she loved to dance. She loved riding motorcycles, going to the casino, playing Bingo, and crocheting. She had a love for Nascar, Steve Harvey, the Patriots, and the Boston Red Sox. She strongly disliked the NY Yankees and when her granddaughter Alexis called her Carol. She had a niche for telling dirty jokes and overall being a sassy lady. She loved music, mostly Rock N’ Roll. She almost fainted when she heard Elvis passed away. If music was playing, she was dancing. Carol was known for her infamous chicken wings, macaroni salad, wandies, and fatads. Above all was her love for her family. She spent almost every Friday at Langs Bowling Alley with her grandchildren. She worried over and took care of her family, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. She lived a full life as she brought smiles and laughter to those around her. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Daughter of parents Edward & Antonetta (Corrente) Butler. Carol was the beloved wife of Joseph Ratte, Sr of 57 years; mother of Donna (Paul) Constant, Marie (John) Lamphere II, and Joseph (Jen) Ratte, Jr. Proud grandmother of Paul (Melinda) Constant, Brian (Melissa) Constant, Michael, Christopher, John (Katarina) Lamphere III, Giana (Josh) Garcia, Nicole, and Alexis; She was predeceased by her great-granddaughter, Cadence Ann Constant; great-grandmother of Landon, Beckett, Raevyn, and John IV; Beloved sister of Susan Maioli and Diane Butler; predeceased by her siblings: Edward, Geraldine Butler, Joyce Bibby, Ronald, Fred, and Arthur; Her beloved puppadoos, Bella and Whiskey.

A Catholic prayer service will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 7pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick; visiting hours will be prior 4-7pm.
