Marietta Angelina Lemon Steed

Ms. Marietta Lemon Steed was born in Charleston, South Carolina March 14, 1943, the daughter of the late Reverend Rip Isiah and Virginia Vance Lemon.

She attended the public schools of Charleston County and graduated from Allen University in 1965, with further study at Benedict College and the University of South Carolina.

Marietta retired from Newberry County School System with thirty-three (33) years of successful teaching that also included one (1) year of teaching in Sumter County School District in Americus, Georgia.  Her untiring efforts to mold the lives of all young people were unending.

Mrs. Marietta L. Steed was a member of Old Bethel AME Church and currently a member of Francis Burns United Methodist Church.  Her additional memberships were held in the following organizations: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Education Association, South Carolina Education Association, AARP Association and the Local and National Alumni Associations of Allen University.

Early on the morning of Tuesday, May 30, 2023, Marietta folded her earthly tent and went to join her Heavenly Father in glory.  She lived an exemplary life and was very loving and devoted to her family, friends, and her work.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends.  Marietta Lemon Steed touched the lives of so many people whose hearts she will forever live.
