Hubert Hunt Obituary

July 27, 1946 - May 28, 2023

How does one life fit on a single page?

Hubert passed away suddenly but peacefully in the evening of May 28, 2023, with his typical approach of not wanting to burden a soul.

Born to Ethel and Isaac Hunt of Sandringham, Newfoundland, Hubert moved to the city at the tender age of 19 to find work. Legend has it he met his wife, Marjorie (Kelloway) on Water Street when they were both bank tellers (he at Scotiabank and she at BMO), as they went back and forth for “change”. Turns out he got more than he bargained for as fell in love with beautiful Marjorie, and married her in St. John’s on September 18, 1967.

Together, they built a home of pure love, and soon filled it with noise and mayhem with their children Darren Christopher (Jill Hunt) in 1971, then Lisa Michelle in 1976.

A flurry of beautiful grandchildren then commenced in 2003 (Myah Hope), 2005 (JP Isaac), 2008 (Lilyana Faith) and 2010 (Jaiden Catherine). He loved those children with his whole heart and soul, and he has left a little piece of himself here on earth in each of them.

Our hearts are shattered yet we are holding on tight to the knowledge that he is now breathing easy in heaven, with our beloved mother, Marjorie Hunt (Kelloway) his own parents (Ethel and Isaac Hunt), and the many friends and family who have paved the road to heaven for him. He also will be greeted with loving arms by his baby sisters who died as small children: Nellie Loretta and Zeta Mildred.

Here on earth, we will continue to remember him and do our best to be good people, as he taught us to do.

We would be remiss to not mention his lifelong friend and partner in foolishness, Bob Noseworthy (aka Rusty) and his wife Dale Noseworthy. A more steadfast, loyal and supportive couple simply doesn’t exist.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the fast and compassionate response of the Eastern Health EMT team, and most especially Wendy, whose kindness will remain forever in our hearts. Kelly, and the beautiful team of staff at Winslowe Ridge-you gave our father dignity, care and frequent head rubs, and treated him as if he were your own.

As per our father’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Barrett’s Funeral Home. A private family inurnment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. He asked for no visitation or funeral, and for us to have a celebratory drink of scotch in his honour when we are ready. Dad, our pain is immense, but our love is greater.

We will meet again
