Charles Hall Obituary

Charles Hayward Hall, 94, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle passed away peacefully May 26, 2023, at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Throughout his years of battling prostate cancer, he always maintained his quick wit and sense of humor.

Charles was born October 8, 1928, in Woolstock, IA, to Charles and Hilda Hall.

He graduated from Meservey High School in 1948.

Charles was a proud veteran. He joined the army October 10, 1952, and was honorably discharged August 18, 1954. He served in the Korean War as a communications technician.

When he returned to the states, he entered electronics school in Des Moines, IA.

Charles met the love of his life, Elisabeth, at a dance at the YWCA. They were married October 7, 1956, in Dallas Center, Iowa, and were blessed with four children.

Charles used his knowledge of electronics working as a repairman for Traviss Television for 37 years. He also worked at Colonial Bakery simultaneously for several years. In addition to working two jobs, he owned and maintained an apartment house for several years. He taught his children the value of hard work by having them help with odd jobs around the apartment house. After retiring from Traviss Television he went to work part time delivering flowers for a local florist, and delivering theater film for Fridley Theaters, working into his early 80’s. Charles worked tirelessly to provide a good life for his family.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, woodworking, playing horseshoes with the neighbor, going to coffee and playing cards with his cronies, remodeling and tinkering around the house, but he was never too busy to drop whatever he was doing to help his children with their home remodeling projects, or needed repairs. Charles was a “Jack of All Trades'', and could fix just about anything.

Preceding Charles in death were his parents Charles and Hilda Hall, brothers; Franklin (Buster) Hall, Jerry Hall, sisters; Constance Binder, Sharon Duregger; mother-in-law, Christina Beni; father-in-law, Samuel Beni; brothers-in-law; Chris Binder, Edward Duregger, Faye Denger, Peter Beni; sister-in-law, Betty Beni.
