Obituary

Minnie Barth Schievelbein was born April 25, 1926 in the family farmhouse near Lockhart, Texas to Walter H. Barth and Minnie Homann Barth. She was the fourth child born into this family of nine children. Her siblings and both parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her two grown children, Vernell and Dan.

She was part of the Greatest Generation, which experienced the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II, and the after effects of war on their well-being. One of her first jobs after leaving home as a young woman of age, and moving to Seguin to join her oldest sister, was working in the Sunshine Sewing Factory, where her job was to inspect military uniforms after they were made. This made her even more of a perfectionist when it came to sewing and would use these skills in making not only clothes for her children but teaching her daughter to "do it right."

She married Arthur Schievelbein of Seguin in June 1945. He preceded her in death. Minnie was a woman filled with love and devotion for her family, always seeing that they had healthy, nutritious meals to eat, and all the other essentials that a mother would be responsible for when it came to raising her children. She was always conscientious of her family's needs and took care of them accordingly. To her, family always came first.

She passed away, due to natural causes, on April 16, 2020 at Onion Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Austin, Texas. She had been in lock down since March 13, the very last day she would ever see her two children. She was diagnosed with pneumonia a few days later, but treatment began immediately and she survived this bout. Her two children were both looking forward to her 94th birthday, upcoming on April 25, soon to be followed by Mother's Day. A woman with such dedication and devotion for her family had been deprived of spending her last days on Earth with the children she loved so dearly, due to having to be locked out of the danger of contracting the Coronavirus. This has made her passing a much more painful experience than if life was still going on like we all knew it so well before the pandemic.
