Leon Waverly Bailey Obituary

Leon Waverly Bailey, Jr, 86, Suffield, (formerly Longmeadow), beloved husband of

Marilynn Bailey, died on May 2, 2023. Born in Charlotte, NC on September 21,1936. Son of Mary and Leon W. Bailey, Sr.


Leon earned his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State. He and Marilynn were married in Cleveland, TN and moved north to start his long and full career at Hamilton Standard. He is most proud of working on the fuel systems of the SR-71 and traveling the world for his job. He continued his career at Belcan, providing services for Collins Aerospace until this past year.


He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Springfield and later in life, First Church of Christ, Suffield. He was a hunter, train and stamp collector, lapidary and lover of dogs; German Short-haired Pointers and AKC champion Weimaraners.


He is survived by his five children: Dr. Scott Bailey (Amey) of Plymouth, NH; Todd Bailey (Rev. Diann) of Granby, CT; Sheryl Bailey (Joe Blajda) of Manchester, NH; Leann Soderberg (Dana) of Yarmouthport, MA and Glen Bailey (Gina) of Homestead, FL; eleven grandchildren, Benjamin and Nathaniel Bailey, Savannah

and Rosa Bailey, Linnea and Bailey Soderberg, Dakota Garcia and Cheyenne, Boston, Athens, and Zeeland Bailey; three great grandchildren Otis, Myra and Rowan.


The Memorial Service to Celebrate both Marilynn and Leon Bailey Jr., will take place on Saturday July 8, 11:00 am in the chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave, Springfield, MA. The burials will immediately follow in the Memorial Garden.


Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, Suffield, CT has been entrusted with the arrangements.
