Richard Charles "Dick" Seifert Obituary

Richard Charles "Dick" Seifert, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 29, 2022.

He was preceded in death by wife, Sharon Seifert and parents George and Martha Seifert.

Dick is survived by two children; Shelly (Dan) Lettieri; of Aurora IL and a son Greg of Greensboro N.C. six beloved grandchildren; Corey, Cole, Chase, Cameron Lettieri, Isabel and George Seifert and his brother, Bob Seifert of Ann Arbor, MI; nephew, Matt Seifert (Jennifer) of Huntington Beach, CA niece, Shery Seifert of Stanwood, WA, and his companion, Judy of Niles, MI.

Dick grew up in South Bend, IN. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Marine Corp reserves. Upon returning from boot camp a neighbor mentioned that the company he worked for was looking for people to work with this new machine they just received. It was called a computer. Through many courses at IBM he spent a long career in computer operations. His career spanned from Miles Labs to Bendix / Honeywell and IBM. He retired at age 55 and enjoyed taking up golf and travelling to Ft. Myers, Florida with friends and family. He was also a bartender for many years at the University of Notre Dame football games at the Morris Inn. He always had a love and passion for baseball and continued that into adulthood through fast-pitch and finally slow-pitch softball. He coached his sons little league teams and later umpired baseball and softball. He also enjoyed bowling and friendships through PNA 83. Richard continued his passion for all things Notre Dame and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. He was happy he saw the cubs win a world series in his lifetime. Dick was never one to sit still. He loved a well-kept yard and spending all his time outdoors. He worked for the South Bend Tribune starting with a paper route in 1947 and finally retiring in 1995 where he had been helping with the distribution of the Sunday newspaper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN 46628, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to mass at the church.  Private burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
