Jose Carlos “Pepe” Porras passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at home in Houston. Born November 8, 1940 in Mexico to parents Jose and Leopolda, Pepe will be forever remembered as a caring and loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by everyone who knew him.

Pepe is survived by his loving wife of 53-years, Maria Guadalupe Munoz Porras; his daughters: Cristina and her husband, Gabriel, and their daughters, Victoria and Sofia; Karina and her husband Ivan and their fur-daughter, Coco; his son, Carlos and his wife, Mindy and their two children, Bella Sofia and Marshall.

Mr. Porras always tried to make people feel important when he would say, “You’re Number One.” He told many doctors and nurses that favorite saying.

Pepe met his wife, Maria, and they married in 1970. That blessed union produced three children and four grandchildren, all of whom adored Pepe.

Pepe spend many years working at the famous Rice Hotel in downtown Houston. In addition, he opened and operated “Nina’s Super Taco” in the heart of the Montrose area in Houston for over ten years. During that period, the entire family worked together cooking, dishwashing, and providing great customer service. It was a warm family effort and a testament to successful family businesses.

In the 2000’s, Pepe retired and spent his time traveling back to his home country of Mexico and gardening. He loved classic movies, listening to the “oldies” and spending his time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Porras will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

A visitation is planned for Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with internment following at the Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends in reception at Woodlawn Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
