Dorothy Lee William-Thurmon Obituary

Dorothy Lee Williams Thurmon, born

August 6, 1936, in Taylor, TX, was the last living

relative out of her siblings to depart from this

earthly life on May 21, 2023, at 86.

She was the daughter of the late Pete and

Alice Williams.

Ms. Dorthy had a union with Charles Griffin

Sr. at a young age in Taylor, TX, and gave birth to

five children. After giving birth to her last child

in Texas, Ms. Dorothy moved away from the cotton fields of Texas to

the city life of Colorado. Here, she would become the wife of St John

Tyler Sr, and they would have five children. After a short and loving

marriage, she met Leroy Rollins Jr. and had a daughter. Ms. Dorthy

married her current husband, James Thurman, in 1980.

Ms. Dorothy Lee Williams Thurmon would solidify her roots in

Colorado, begin a new turn of events, and grow her family to eleven

children, including five sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law: Mrs.

Linda Griffin-Noble and spouse James Noble; Charles Griffin Jr.

and spouse Sandra Griffin; Penny Griffin-Clarke Brown and spouse

Kennon Brown; Shaquita Griffin-Jones and spouse Evans Jones;

Mrs.Flossie Jackson and spouse Mr. Arthur Jackson; Brenda Rollins-

Booker and spouse Reggie Booker; Johnnie Griffin; St. John Tyler, Jr.,

Shelia Tyler; Cycle Tyler; and Kevin Tyler. Ms. Dorthy would also raise

her nephew Arthur Williams and great-nephew Rodrick Martin as her

own in Colorado.

Ms. Dorothy would live out her life as a homemaker and the

matriarch of her family and rejoiced in the growth of her family lineage

of 20 grandkids, 50 great grandkids, and 11 great-great-grandkids.

Her family’s most significant memories are that she loved cooking

big meals that could feed an army, having family gatherings playing

bingo, going to the hill (casinos), and receiving crisp ($100 bills).

Still, most of all, she loved having her children and grandchildren,

including many nieces and nephews, visit her from her home state

of Texas.

The family would like her memory to be that she believed in

Jesus Christ; she never treated anyone like a stranger. Her door was

always open and her light on if you needed anything; if she had it,

she would give it to you, and she was kind, loving, and caring. Her

love was unconditional, and her presence everlasting.

She would want us to forgive one another and live in harmony so

that peace and love will continue to oblige in our family.
