Mrs. Betty J. Hardin Obituary

Betty J. Hardin, 76, a resident of Nashville, Indiana, passed from this life unexpectedly at 3:58 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at her home.

Mrs. Hardin was born in Brown County, May 29, 1946, the loving daughter of James and Dora Mathis Lucas. She was the wife of the Reverend Paul D. Hardin, to whom she married May 28, 1966; he survives.

Mrs. Hardin was a graduate of Nashville High School, and she spent 18 months in Germany while Paul served our country in the U.S. Army. Their first daughter, Angela, was born in Nuremburg, Germany. A homemaker, Mrs. Hardin was a loving pastor’s wife, church secretary, and faithful member of Green Valley Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Nashville where she was known at the “Church Mother”.

She enjoyed reading, daily walks, tending to her flowers and bird feeding, especially her hummingbirds. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with the grandkids.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 57 years, Reverend Paul D. Hardin; her sons-in-law, Shawn A. Fosnight of Gnaw Bone and Billy Maggard of Edinburgh; grandchildren, Shawn A. Fosnight of Gnaw Bone, Bradley P. (Kaylee) Fosnight of Columbus, Tiffany (Jeff) Roberts of Edinburgh, and Khaley Maggard of Edinburgh; great-grandchildren, Emily, Dyani, Robert, Nathan, Mason, and Madison; sister, Dolly Matlock of Nashville; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Hardin was preceded in death by her parents, her daughters, Angela Fosnight and Paula Maggard; brother, Kenneth Lucas; and sisters, Norma Jean Petro, Molly Woods, Nellie Petro, Linda Bingham, and Pat Rice.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Green Valley Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 385 South Green Valley Church Road, Nashville; Assistant Pastor Rick Rice will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Hardin will be laid to rest at Crouch Cemetery in Brown County. Memorial contributions can be made to Green Valley Apostolic Pentecostal Church.
