Linda (Cassidy) Hannigan Obituary

Linda (Cassidy) Hannigan, 78, died peacefully May 25, 2023, under the care of Madigan Nursing Home, with her son Rick by her side. Linda was born March 28, 1945, the daughter of Lewis and Mary “Dolly” (McCue) Cassidy, of Amity.

Linda was a member of St. Mary’s parish in Houlton. She trained as an L.P.N. and worked in several hospitals and nursing homes in Millinocket and Houlton. Upon moving back to Houlton, and as her children grew, she went to work at Houlton Regional Hospital, spending most of her career in the Emergency Room. When her children left home, she went to Northern Maine Community College and, while still working as an L.P.N., became an R.N. During her time at Houlton Regional she was active in the Maine State Nurses Association, at one time serving as its state president. Linda continued to work at HRH until her retirement, at which time she began working at Harmony house and Gardiner nursing homes. As a nurse she touched many lives in the communities in which she worked.

In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by her husband, Tom, as well as three brothers, and a sister.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael Hannigan and his wife, Denise, their children, Gabe Hannigan and his wife, Sarah, and their son, Evan, Seth Hannigan and his fiancée, Abbie Glidden, and Heather Hannigan, Rick Hannigan and his wife, Cindy, and their children, Nick Hannigan, Tommy Hannigan and his wife, Maddie, and their sons, Graham and Jhett, Tyler Hannigan and his fiancée, Megan Seward, and Erin Dudar and her husband, Dan and their daughter, Elise, Rob Hannigan and his children, Kaitlin Suitter and her husband, Brandon, and Carolyn Hannigan and her friend, Harris Gray. We would also be remiss if we left off her “adoptive” grandson and special friend, Alec Small.

Linda spent the last few years of her life with a special friend Joe Pokorny who passed last May. She became very close with his family, Joe Jr. and Anita Pokorny, Hughie Pokorny, Karen Pokorny and her husband, Bob, and Marie and Sean Perron. As well as Joe, her pets Archie, Jigs, and Matilda became her “babies” and she was very grateful and put at ease when after she could no longer care for them, they were adopted by good homes.

The family would like to thank her neighborhood friends in the Wilson Ave. area for their support, concerns, and help while she was at home. The staff of the Madigan nursing home for their gentle and patient care and everyone who has touched her life.

A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St. Houlton. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Houlton. Those wishing to remember Linda in a special way may consider a donation in her name to the Houlton Animal Shelter, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St. Houlton, ME 04730.
