Donald F Pitcher

<p>Hingham, MA -- Donald Folsom Pitcher, Jr. passed away unexpectedly as a result of an accident on May 16, 2023, one day before his 85th birthday and a month before his 60th wedding anniversary.&nbsp; Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Donald Folsom Pitcher and Roberta (Hardy) Pitcher. &nbsp;A life-long resident of Hingham, he graduated from Hingham High School (1956), Harvard College (1960), and Harvard Business School (1966).&nbsp; From 1960–1963, he was a naval officer on the USS Lowe out of San Francisco. &nbsp;He was a Senior Vice President and portfolio manager with Massachusetts Financial Services for 34 years before retiring in 2005, and was an early champion for women in the workplace. &nbsp;An avid sailor and quirky tennis player, he was a member of the Hingham Yacht Club, Hingham Tennis Club, and the Cohasset Golf Club. &nbsp;For the last 18 years, he divided his time between Hingham, MA and Bristol, ME, spending countless hours shaping his bushes one inch at a time. &nbsp;It was his form of therapy, a time to consider world and local issues. &nbsp;He gave himself the title of Master Pruner. </p><p>Don was an exceptional, caring, and loving husband and father and fiercely loyal to his friends.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hampton Pitcher, son, Donald Folsom Pitcher III of Great Barrington, MA, and daughter, Sara Hampton Pitcher of Boston, MA. &nbsp;He is also survived by his sister, Jane (Pitcher) Wheeler and brother-in-law George L. Hampton III, as well as 5 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. &nbsp;Don was an outsized, larger-than-life presence in our lives and will be greatly missed.&nbsp; Burial will be private at the Hingham Cemetery.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate/memorial-giving.html) or the Hingham Congregational Church (https://hccucc.com/who-we-are/giving/).&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp; </p>
