Floyd Thomas "Tom" Bryant, age 79, of Independence, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Medicalodges in Independence.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, June 2, 2023, at Webb Family Funeral Service, from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SKIL (Southeast Kansas Independent Living) and sent to Zach Webb Family Funeral Service, 1475 S. 10th, Independence, KS  67301. 

Tom Bryant was born October 21, 1943, in Watsonville, CA, to Floyd and Irene (Collins) Bryant. The family moved to Independence and Tom graduated Independence High School in 1962. "Tiny" played on the record setting football team as one of Kayo's Boys. Tom also graduated from Independence Community Junior College. Tom joined the US Army in 1964 and served in Vietnam. He married Sharon Keller and they had two children. The couple later divorced. He married Laura Austin Fairbank on January 16, 1994 in Las Vegas, NV, and she survives at the home. 

Tom worked at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas as the Director Engineer/Maintenance for 40 years and retired in 2007. While at Mercy he was involved in many remodeling and building projects including assisting in the building of the Mercy Fort Scott Hospital. He was active in many community and civic affairs. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He loved watching KU Basketball and KC Chiefs football team.

Survivors of Tom Bryant include: Wife, Laura Bryant, of the home. Children: Daniel Bryant, Independence, KS, and Barbara Smith (K.C.), Manhattan, KS.  Stepchildren: Jon Fairbank (Teresa), Independence, KS, Allison Ysusi (Bryan) – Lenexa, KS, and Amy Fairbank, Independence, KS.  Siblings: John Bryant, Ron Bryant (Debbie), Independence, KS, and Connie Smith (Clarence), Savanah, GA.  Grandchildren: David Bryant (Susan), Shawnee, KS, Carsyn Goins (Drew), Wichita, KS, Maeson and Jake Bryant, Independence, KS,Talor and Jarett Smith. Manhattan, KS, Josh Smith, Independence, KS, Grace Lofton (Triston), Independence, KS, Emily Fairbank, Pittsburg, KS, Hannah, Jack, and Callie Fairbank, Independence, KS

Quincee, Braxton, and Tatum Ysusi, Lenexa, KS, Great Grandchildren: Jase Bryant, Kansas City, KS.

Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

The family of Tom Bryant has entrusted the arrangement of the services to Zach and Dee Webb of locally owned Zach Webb Family Funeral Service of Independence.
