<p>Stephanie Thomas Busing Heflin, 74, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023, at home after a battle with cancer.</p><p><br></p><p>A native of Salt Lake City, UT, Stephanie was born on November 8, 1948, to Dolores Thomas and Richard Thomas. Stephanie grew up in a military family and lived in a Naval base in Sasebo, Japan for two years as a young child. She was a 1966 graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL and attended Sterling Beauty School in Sterling, IL.</p><p><br></p><p>Stephanie was an accomplished hairstylist and served as an instructor and Director of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences at Sterling Beauty School. She was awarded a scholarship to the Clairol Professional Training Center in New York City in 1984. Stephanie owned Fourth Street Hair Station in Sterling, IL, and worked as a stylist for many years. She was dearly loved by her clients and coworkers and retired from Extreme Hair and Day Spa in Sterling, IL.</p><p><br></p><p>A member of New Life Lutheran Church, Stephanie loved serving others and was generous with her time. She had a great sense of humor and loved her family and friends. Stephanie married her husband Dale in September of 1967, and they were married almost 56 years. Another love of her life was her Irish Doodle Cooper, who was certified as a therapy dog, and brightened the lives of many in assisted living facilities and everywhere he visited.</p><p><br></p><p>Stephanie is survived by her loving husband, Dale E. Heflin; her sons, Dale (Jennifer) Heflin, Jr., Paul (Amber) Heflin and Benny Heflin; her grandchildren, Tyler Heflin, Erin (Isaac) O’Gara, Jackson (Kennedy Shelley) Heflin, Will Heflin, Kendall (Dylan Gray) Heflin, and Dax Stuzke-Heflin; her siblings, Holly Thomas Albrecht, John Busing, Gwen Golden, and Joann Thomas Jensen.</p><p><br></p><p>Stephanie was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Thomas Busing; her father, Richard Thomas; her stepfather, Donald Busing; and her sister, Patricia Wagner.</p><p><br></p><p>The family will receive friends at 10am on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at New Life Lutheran Church at 702 West Lynn Boulevard, Sterling, IL 61081. The funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at New Life Lutheran Church at 702 West Lynn Boulevard, Sterling, IL 61081. Pastor Phil Gronbach will officiate. A celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Sterling American Legion at 601 1st Avenue, Sterling, IL 61081.</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial fund has been established, or memorial donations may be made to help further cancer research.</p><p><br></p>
