Charles Forrest Sugg Obituary

Charles “Charlie” Forrest Sugg went to be with the Lord in the comfort of his own home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, surrounded by family on November 22, 2019, after 77 years of life. Charlie was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 10, 1942, to parents Bennie and Bettie Sugg. He grew up in Lonoke, Arkansas, and attended Lonoke High School. As a boy, he loved model airplanes and trains, comic books, and working on cars. Charlie attended college at the University of Arkansas (U of A), majored in Engineering, and graduated in 1966. After interviewing on the U of A campus, Charlie began his first job as an electrical engineer at The LTV Corporation in 1966 and moved to Arlington, Texas. He pursued a Masters degree at Southern Methodist University while working at the LTV Aerospace and Defense Company (now Lockheed Martin Corporation) programming missiles. Charlie continued to work at the company for 40 years until his retirement in 2006. Upon retirement, he moved to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. He was a loyal member of The Church at Horseshoe Bay and the Faith Bridge Sunday School class. Charlie served on the Benevolence Committee at The Church, worked on The Church’s computers, and helped around The Church wherever he was needed by trimming trees, changing lights, etc. He also served on the Horseshoe Bay Long-Term Planning Committee and served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Charlie was an all-round nice guy who loved fixing anything electronic, playing with computers, watching football, growing plants, riding horses, watching DVDs, going snow skiing, and eating ice cream. Most of all, he loved his family and his church.

Charlie is survived by his first wife, Margaret Sugg, and their two children, Stephanie Manko and her husband Doug, and Christopher Sugg and his wife Laura; his sister Carolyn Bass; his grandchildren JD Manko, Emily Sugg, Maxwell Manko and Anna Sugg; nephews Brad Bass and wife Dianna, and Brian Bass and wife Tracy; and Cathy Bass, widow of Brett Bass. He was preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Bettie Sugg; Brother-in-Law Bert Bass; nephew Brett Bass; and Nancy Bass, first wife of Brian Bass. Charlie is also survived by his second wife, Donna Sugg, and stepchildren Shane Crow and Kevin Crow; and his cat Snickers (who needs a new home).

Charlie bravely battled pancreatic cancer for the past 18 months. The family would like to thank the staff (Dr. Fogelman, Erin Yates PA, and Tracey Lewis RN) at MD Anderson Cancer Center for their wonderful care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Dr. Fogelman’s Pancreatic Research at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
