<p>Tom passed in KU Medical Center Tuesday afternoon</p><p>Memorial services will be Sunday June 4th at 3:00 PM </p><p>in the funeral home. Visitation Saturday 5 to 6 PM </p><p><br></p><p>Tommy Ray Crain was born in Humansville, Mo. on March 10, 1952, to Leonard Denton Crain and Agnes Pauline (Gilden) Crain. </p><p><br></p><p>During his younger years, Tom’s dad, Leonard worked for the railroad, so they moved around to different places, finally settling in Bolivar, Mo. Tom went to all twelve years of school and graduated from Bolivar High School. When Tom was a teenager, he went to Berean Baptist church with a friend one night, was convicted, and the Lord saved his soul. He later joined Alder Missionary Baptist Church, near Stockton, and was baptized.</p><p><br></p><p>After high school, Tom began working for Teter’s Floral Products, in Bolivar. This is where he met the “pretty girl with the long black hair”, Kathy Johnson, from Stockton, Mo. They were married on January 19, 1973 and began their life together in a home on the south side of Bolivar. </p><p>To this union, two children were born; Melissa Dawn Crain, on July 13, 1976, and Shawn Alan Crain, on November 23, 1980. Melissa had to spend extra time in the hospital related to jaundice. As Tom later testified, in was then that he was called to preach God’s Word; “anything for his firstborn child”. It was sixteen years later that he testified to God’s call and began to preach. At that time he was a member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church north of Stockton. He later was a pastor at Blue Mound Missionary Baptist Church in St. Clair county, and then Forrest Home Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar county.</p><p>Soon after marriage, Tom began working for Zenith in Springfield, and was there for nineteen years, then he went back to Teter’s for 3-4years. After the kids were in school, Kathy went back to work and later joined the insurance business with her dad, Paul Johnson, in Stockton. In 1992, Tom also became an agent and joined the Johnson Insurance business. The family moved to Stockton, where they continued to live until the time of his death.</p><p><br></p><p>Tom loved hunting and fishing, he always had a fishing boat, and, he always had a story to tell. He enjoyed guns, and spent time reloading shells when he was unable to hunt.</p><p>Along with Kathy, and his children, Tom loved his grandchildren, and was always ready to spend time with them. Melissa gave birth to twin girls in October 2001, Alyson (Aly) Darlene and Jilyan (Jily) Ann Dunlap. Their “Poppie” was wrapped around their little fingers from the beginning. Later came the two brothers, Richard Paul (April 2011) and Isaac Lee (on Tom’s birthday, March 10, 2015) Goldsmith. They were dearly loved by their “Poppie”. Tom thought he surely had some fishing partners after they were born. Tom met lots to people in his lifetime; he could visit and tell stories for hours. He loved children and he loved the church. </p><p>Tom was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in June 2022. Kathy sold the Johnson Insurance business and stayed by his side, caring for him through his pain and treatments. God called him to his heavenly home on May 23, 2023 with Kathy by his side.</p><p><br></p><p>Tom was proceeded in death by his parents, Leonard and Agnes Crain; his brother Don Crain and wife Mary, and his sister Edna Cox and husband, Ralph. </p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife Kathy Johnson Crain; two children, Melissa (Darren) Goldsmith, and Shawn Crain; four grandchildren; Aly Dunlap, Jily Dunlap, Richie Goldsmith, and Isaac Goldsmith; nephew, Eddie (Lesa) Crain; great-nephews, Brad (Amanda) Crain, Scott (Jenna) Crain; great niece, Bethany (Cody) Mathis; brother-in-law, Eddie (Debbie) Johnson, their daughters, Jennie (Doyle) Dunagan, Ryeder and Treyce, Sarah (Jonathan) Sharp, Sophia; other relatives, church family and friends.</p><p><br></p>May 23, 202305/23/2023
