Helen Daly Obituary

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Adrian; loving mother of Mary Ann Zurek (Mark), Joan Redebaugh (the late Peter), Tim (Lynn) and the late Mark; and dear grandmother of Kathryn, Michael, Emily, Daniel (Elizabeth), Sean, Laura, Peter, Kathleen, Patrick and Erin and two great grandchildren.

Helen (Copulos) Daly was born on October 31, 1923, in Detroit and attended Mackenzie High School, where she met her beloved husband Al, as well as many of their life-long friends. After graduating from high school at 16 years old, she attended Secretarial school and worked for Ford Motor Company for several years. She and Al married in 1948 and she began life as a homemaker and mother. The family moved to Farmington Hills in 1960, where Helen and Al raised their four children on Bonnet Hill Road. Helen lived in the home for nearly 60 years.

She was a wonderful cook, and after taking a gourmet cooking class, she indulged her family in many tasty international dishes she would cook throughout the years. She also made delicious Dolmades, a Greek dish (her family heritage) that was passed down from her mother. Helen was also an avid reader and loved to solve the New York Times crossword puzzles. She was able to solve those difficult clues well into her 80s.

After her children were grown, she spent time volunteering at Henry Ford Hospital and taking winter trips to Florida with Al. They also enjoyed a 50th anniversary trip to Ireland together. Helen and Al were lucky to be married for nearly 60 years.

Helen was soft-hearted and compassionate to those in need, both people and animals. She had a great love for dogs and loved to dog sit her “grand-dogs” when she no longer had a pet of her own. She was always fun to be around and loved to joke. Everyone loved her, whether it was her friends, neighbors or the staff at the Assisted Living where she spent her last few years. And of course, those who called her Nana, Aunt Helen and Mom loved her most of all. She lived a long and beautiful life, and she will be missed.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, 11:00am at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak 48073. Visitation begins at 10:00am.

Memorial tributes may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307-3115 or leaderdog.org.
