Lake Havasu pioneer Ronald L. Liesen peacefully passed away at his home, Sunday May 7th, 2023 with family and his dog at his side.

Born July 4th, 1940, in Quincy, IL, he grew up in Quincy and then attended Notre Dame where he played football and earned his degrees in education. In 1963 he married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Liesen (Culver). With the pioneer spirit they escaped the big city of Chicago to a desert town of only a couple thousand people called Lake Havasu in 1967 where he began his 28-year long career. Ron served the schools in many capacities, ranging from being a coach, teacher, mentor, assistant principal, and principal for several schools. He was involved in many civic, fraternal, and service organizations, and was a charter member of several of them as Lake Havasu grew into Lake Havasu City. After the passing of his first wife, he married Mickey Liesen (Quiggle) in 1981, who passed away in 2004. Ron is survived by his son, Jim Liesen (Vanessa) of Lake Havasu City, and Daughter Laura Grisham (Steve), Chandler, AZ. Stepson Dave Quiggle (Ann), step granddaughter Jenna Quiggle, and step grandson Taylor Quiggle. Stepdaughter Jean Oxley (Gary) and step grandson Andrew. Along with five step grandchildren.

Ron was a lifelong outdoorsman and educator. He enjoyed training his hunting dogs, fishing, and hunting with friends and family. He always had empathy and the wisdom of experience which gave him a manner of teaching that made people feel that they were being talked ‘with’ instead of talked ‘to’ and with that he was highly respected as a leader in all his endeavors.

Services will be held on June 6th, 2023, at 11am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Lake Havasu Bass Club which helps teach kids how to fish and learn about the outdoors.
