Otto Raszler, 95, formerly of Hazen, passed away May 21, 2023 at Missouri Slope in Bismarck. Services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, ND, with the Rev. Kathi Nygaard officiating. Interment will follow at the Beulah City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Otto was born on June 24, 1927 to Adolf and Emelia (Wiedenmeyer) Raszler at the family farm south of Beulah. He married Agnes Schopp on October 16, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah. They made their home on the Raszler farm 10 miles southwest of Hazen, where they raised their two daughters and worked the land side by side for over 50 years.

Throughout his life, Otto gave his time in service to his community and to causes and organizations that made a positive impact on the lives of others. He served as a board member of a number of organizations, including the Greenvale School District, Oliver County ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service), Beulah Community Nursing Home, and the Oliver County Social Services board. He also served on the Stewardship and Finance Committee and Trust Fund committee at Zion Lutheran Church. Following his retirement from farming, Otto began volunteering for the Mercer County Resource Center Food Pantry by transporting food from the Great Plains Food Bank distribution center in Bismarck to Beulah. He also enjoyed visiting with old friends and making new ones as a delivery volunteer for the Mercer County Meals on Wheels program.

Otto found his greatest happiness in the company of family, friends, and neighbors and especially enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren. Though there was always work to be done on the farm, he made a priority of attending their school activities and supporting them in their education. He always found the time to sit down for a game of pinochle or gin rummy when they came to the farm to visit, games which he nearly always won. He taught his family the values of hard work, integrity, generosity, and stewardship of the land, both in his words and by his unassuming example.

Otto is survived by his two daughters, Jeannette (Edwin) Kittler, Bismarck, and Joyce (Mark) Sayler, Mandan; three grandchildren, Anthony Sayler, Mandan, Elizabeth (Tim) Jacobs, Bismarck, and Kimberly (David) Ukestad, Bismarck; and five great-grandchildren, Jackson Jacobs, and Isaac, Andrew, Hannah, and Madalyn Ukestad; and one brother-in-law, Vern Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his parents, Adolf and Emelia Raszler; eight brothers, Edwin, Arnold, Oswald, Herbert, Raymond, Edgar, Walter, and Albert; and one sister, Eileen Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Otto’s name to the Mercer County Resource Center (WARC) Food Pantry or the Hazen Senior Citizens Center.
