Jewel Billy "J.B." Dedeaux Obituary

Jewel Billy Dedeaux, Sr., 80, passed away early Monday morning, May 22, 2023 at Memorial Hospital at Stone County. You likely don't recognize that name, but you just might know "J.B.", which is how he was widely known. He was born on December 20, 1942 at the old home place in Steep Hollow, the oldest of four children to Virgil Ivan and Mary Louise (Harriel) Dedeaux. He grew up in the Silver Run community, which he has called home his entire life. The country life is what J.B. has known from the start. Gardens, farming, milking cows and riding horses are just the tip of the iceberg. He loved to hunt and fish, and spent lots of time doing so. J.B. attended school at Silver Run, moving on to the old Perkinston High School where he graduated with the Class of 1961. He went to work driving trucks, first for Movie Star, later for his dad hauling gravel and dirt. Later, J.B. started his own company, Dedeaux Trucking, operating that for several years. He met Joyce at a party in 1963, and the rest as they say, is history. They were married in 1966, made their home in Silver Run and raised their family. After J.B. "retired" from trucking, him and his son Darren opened Dedeaux's Family Body Shop, operating that until Katrina destroyed the building. J.B. then went to work with the Sheriff's Department and was there for eleven more years. Work was something he was not afraid of. In his spare time, he hunted and rode his favorite horse, Sport. When there wasn't anything to hunt, he enjoyed watching old western movies, or could be found relaxing on the porch swing with his faithful companion, Dixie. He is remembered as a true family man. J.B. was determined to say the least, definitely from what many call the old school. He didn't mind telling you what he thought, didn't care for the technological advances, and was often called "the last of the Mohicans". A devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather, J.B. will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, Virgil and Mary Dedeaux, and his brother Vertis "Shorty" Dedeaux. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of over fifty-six years, Joyce; their two sons, Billy (Lisa) and Darren (Vicki) Dedeaux, both of Silver Run; his brother Prentiss (Karen) Dedeaux, also of Silver Run, and his sister Tricia (Bubba) Thornton of Poplarville. He leaves a legacy of four grandsons: Corey Dedeaux, Clint (Destiny) Dedeaux, Ryan (Mikayla) Dedeaux, and Will Dedeaux, along with five great-grandsons: Westin, Jansen, Gannon, Grady, and Kohpen Dedeaux, together with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors through the years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 25th at Silver Run Baptist Church, where he and Joyce were faithful members for many years. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, with Bros. Lance Pearson and Ryan Swilley officiating. Afterward, J.B. will be laid to rest in the new J.B. Dedeaux Family Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Dedeaux family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
