Our Precious Mama, Muriel Rosenthal, passed away
peacefully at home on April 23, 2023, at 101 years young!
She was cared for by her children, the loving staff at her
assisted living home, and Santa Cruz Hospice.
Her brother, her only sibling, Edward Painter, preceded
her in passing one year ago at almost 98.
Muriel is survived by her second husband, David Rosenthal,
almost 103, her three children, Claudia (Marsha),
Melissa, and Shane (Cathy), six grandchildren - Adam,
Adriane, Samantha, Jeremy, Tyler and Janet, six great
grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her
stepchildren. She was always delighted by babies and
small children.
Our mother was born in Oakland, CA on a Sunday, January
22, 1922, and was a second generation Californian.
Our mom loved life. She loved to sing and did so for
decades with many different choirs, even singing in Europe
with the Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus. She also loved
to dance and performed in several musical productions
including the Scotts Valley Cavalcade. She was always
reading a new book and took a great interest in what
was happening politically in our country.
Our mom was passionate about fashion and worked in
several women’s shops, often modeling for the local
newspaper, only quitting so she could travel more. She
loved to experience new places and cultures and was
able to see much of the world.
She will be buried with her two sons, Alex and Timothy,
who passed away in 1962, and her first husband,
Alvin Davis.
Our mom’s twinkling eyes and joyful spirit will be dearly
missed but always alive in our hearts.
