<p>Patricia Schendel Loring, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023.. She was born on April 10, 1937, in Cockeysville, Maryland, to Gordon A. N. Schendel, Sr. and Dorothea T. Fischer Schendel. Pat was the sister of Gordon Andrew Nelson Schendel Jr. Her memory will forever be treasured by her remaining son, Ian Kimball Loring, and daughter-in-law, Isabelle Parsons Loring, as well as her five loving grandchildren: Elizabeth Atherton Loring, George Constable Loring, Nicholas Kimball Loring, Katherine Naomi Rock, and John Wyatt Rock. She is predeceased by her husband, Kimball A. Loring, Jr. and daughter, Amy Loring Rock.<br></p><p><br></p><p>Pat's life began in Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up and enjoyed reading and spending time with her friends and family. She graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, Maryland, and went on to complete her studies at Mary Baldwin College in 1958. After graduation, she embarked on a career at Dewey &amp; Almy Chemical in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she met her beloved husband, Kim.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1965, Patricia and Kimball welcomed their daughter, Amy, followed by the birth of their son, Ian, in 1966. The family resided on Beacon Hill in Boston until 1976 when they relocated to Lakeview Avenue in Cambridge. For many years, Pat worked alongside her husband at their family typesetting business, the Composing Room of New England. Together, they built a thriving business that provided typesetting services to many of the Boston area advertising agencies. Pat managed the books and personnel of the company while Kim spent time with clients. Their son, Ian, starting working as a delivery person during school vacations when he was 12. Pat also dedicated herself to her family, building a loving home. She also enjoyed volunteering at her children’s school, becoming head of the Parents Association for Shady Hill School and Beacon Hill Nursery School.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Patricia possessed a green thumb and found joy in gardening. Her talent and love for nurturing plants were evident in the incredible gardens she cultivated at her house in Nantucket and Cambridge. She also enjoyed the art of hooking needlepoint rugs, immersing herself in the creative process and taking numerous classes to hone her skills. Additionally, Patricia had a voracious appetite for reading and was known for her culinary prowess in the kitchen.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>In 2010, Pat and Kim settled in North Andover, Massachusetts, becoming valued members of the Edgewood Retirement Community. During her thirteen years at Edgewood, Pat became an integral part of the community. She contributed her time and energy to various committees, including the Garden and Nominating Committees. Patricia formed deep friendships with both residents and staff, and her warm personality and welcoming spirit endeared her to many. She cherished her lunch, Sunday breakfast, and birthday group and took pleasure in extending a warm greeting to new members of the Edgewood community.</p><p><br></p><p>Throughout her life, Patricia was a passionate advocate for causes close to her heart. She actively engaged in democratic politics, working tirelessly to promote voter activation. She also supported WGBH, Angie's List and various political candidates, channeling her energy into effecting positive change.</p><p><br></p><p>Pat will be remembered for her infectious laughter and lovely sense of humor. She possessed a strong and intelligent mind, never hesitating to express her opinions with courage and conviction.</p><p><br></p><p>Patricia Schendel Loring leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.</p>
