Lyncon Mikel Olson Obituary

Lyncon Mikel Olson passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home while resting his eyes after a hard day's work in Janesville on May 10, 2023, at the age of 49.

Lyncon was born on May 30, 1973, in Pender, Nebraska to Randall (Randy) and Marcia (Stauffer) Olson. Lyncon began attending school in Sioux Center, Iowa, and later moved to Orange City, Iowa. He graduated from MOC Floyd Valley High School in 1992. Lyncon was a proud Dutchman and prided himself on a well-rounded education. A great passion of Lyncon’s was athletics; he participated and excelled in football, basketball, and track. He also carried a fantastic tune and played a key part in the high school musical, West Side Story. Many don’t know this, but Lyncon was also an accomplished drummer in the Pride of the Dutchmen Band. These attributes clearly made him desired by every female west of the Mississippi or so he thought.

After high school, Lyncon attended Northwestern College where he played football for the Red Raiders. Throughout college, Lyncon worked at Valleyfair Amusement Park as a Security Officer where, in 1995 he met his future bride, Joan Adams. Their first date consisted of dinner, a movie, and cuddling on a couch at Water’s Edge Townhomes in Jonathan, MN.

Throughout his married life, he worked in a variety of jobs. He worked as a Conflict Resolutionist for St. James Schools and then sold insurance through Country Insurance. After his time with Country, he worked for Atlas Insurance and then ended with LJP Waste Solutions of North Mankato, MN. Lyncon also found a little time to drive buses for Palmer Transportation.

Lyncon loved sports cars, coaching sports, golf, watching movies, the Bulldog Basketball Association, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, neon polos, shoes, and playing games with family. Some of his favorite games were Settlers of Catan and Scrabble. Lyncon loved to go beyond the three-minute time limit in Scrabble to gain the winning edge. Most of all, Lyncon loved his wife and five beautiful daughters. There was nothing in life that pleased him more than his relationships with all of them. From making fun Tik-Tok videos to coaching, there wasn’t a moment that he didn’t cherish with them. His relatives found great joy in some of Lyncon’s misfortunes, such as striking the only tree on the golf course or falling in a creek on Hole 1 and playing the rest of the round with one leg soaked and one leg dry. His daughters loved making fun of him for a variety of reasons and scaring him. Lyncon was a good sport and took it all in stride. Over the years, Lyncon gained a great love and appreciation for German Shepherds. As a result, he will be greatly missed by his furry companion, Bane, who never left his side.

Lyncon is survived by his wife, Joan, and five children: Emily (20), Faith (18), Alison (17), Katelyn (15), and Mallory (10). Parents, Randall Olson (Bev) (Nebraska City, NE) and Marcia (Stauffer) Olson (Orange City, IA). Siblings Cameron and Heather Olson (Charleston, SC), Lindsay and Brady Aalbers (Alton, IA), and Nick Olson (Orange City, IA). Brother and sister-in-laws Bill and Stacy Adams (Spicer, MN) and Jeff and Angela Adams (Janesville, MN). Mother-in-law, Judy Adams (Janesville, MN), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenn and Maxine Olson, Lee Stauffer, Myrtle Stauffer, Rudy Lundberg, and father-in-law Everett Adams.

Visitation will be from 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 5:30 PM at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. The interment will be in St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.
