David Teherani Obituary

OBITUARY FOR BIJAN “DAVID” TEHERANI

December 14, 1966 – May 2, 2023

Lifelong Resident of Santa Cruz

Family friends and colleagues will gather to say farewell to a loving brother, uncle, teacher and devoted friend, Bijan, better known as David Teherani. David passed away unexpectedly at his Santa Cruz home.

David graduated from Monte Vista High School in Watsonville. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from UCSC and his teaching credential from Chapman University. For fifteen years, David worked as a teacher and program director at Good Shepherd Catholic School in Santa Cruz. He leaves many dear colleagues and former students who benefitted from his kindness, knowledge and dedication to teaching.

David felt blessed to carry his Catholic Faith with him throughout his life. He loved attending mass at the Villa Maria Del Mar on East Cliff Drive, taking in the freshness of the ocean and all God’s goodness surrounding him.

David was a Faithful 49er fan starting as a youngster and for the past ten years was a season ticket holder. Rain or shine he was there to cheer on his team.

He had many cherished memories of trips to Cabo San Lucas with his mother. He particularly enjoyed the parasailing excursions.

David’s blindness did not affect his passion for living. He felt truly blessed to have so many of God’s gifts enhancing all that was around him. He will always be remembered for his gentile nature, constant grace, especially in troubled times, and a love for all God’s children.

He is survived by his sister, Shoule Teherani of Santa Cruz and his beloved niece, Victoria Bean of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his father Abbas “Al” Teherani in 2009 and his mother Patricia “Pat” Marshall Teherani in 2021.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church beginning at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Holy Cross Mausoleum with his mother and father.

Donations can be made in his name to the Siena House Maternity Home (sienahouse.org), Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz (thefoodbank.org) or 49er’s Education Program (49er’s EDU).
