Sandi Hitch Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Lee Hitch, who died peacefully at home on May 9, 2023, at the age of 78. Sandi had been battling several health issues over the past few years.

Sandra Lee Bishop was born in 1944 to Laura and Leo Bishop in Toledo, Ohio. Sandi married the love of her life, Jeff Hitch, at the age of 41. Sandi and Jeff were inseparable and deeply devoted to each other until Jeff's passing in 1999, after 14 years of marriage.

Sandi is survived by her devoted sister, Debbie Bishop, her aunt, Helen (the late Leonard) Sowinski and several cousins including, Pat (Bill) Grooms, Mike (Diane) Skolmowski, Gloria (the late Tom) Freeman, Annette (Bernie) Krochmalny, Leslie (Tom) Falvey, and Jim Sowinski.

Sandi was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many people. She was a Master Professional teacher in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). As the golf professional at Somerset Golf Club for over 22 years, Sandi taught countless people the art of golf. She made her years at Somerset so much fun by planning golf tournaments and various themed parties. Her vivacious personality and magnetic energy drew people to her. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special.

Not only did Sandi have a passion for playing golf, but she also enjoyed playing any type of card game. She was even known for making a wager or two. Sandi would speak her mind and honestly tell you how things were. Sandi enjoyed gathering with family and friends and had a great sense of humor. She loved entertaining, organizing parties, and had an uncanny way of bringing people together to have a great time.

She loved animals, especially her golden retrievers, first Shammy and then later Puka. She enjoyed visiting and spending winters with family in either Arizona or Florida.

Sandi will be missed by her family, and many friends. She will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind woman who lived life to the fullest and brought joy to everyone around her.

A memorial Mass will be held at Christ, Our Light! Catholic Church, 3077 Glouchester Drive, Troy, MI on Wednesday, May 31, at 10:30AM with visitation starting at 10AM at the church.

Memorial tributes are suggested to Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd. Rochester Hills, MI 48307.
