FISHER “DIXIE” (DIXON) CHAPMAN

Blue Hill

Dixie Chapman, 81, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness on May 6, 2023, at home in Blue Hill. She was born on May 22,1941 in Biloxi, Mississippi, the daughter of John S. Dixon, Jr., and Mary Elizabeth (Boyd) Dixon.

Dixie graduated from The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA and then attended Briarcliffe College. Dixie spent most of her summers growing up in Maine on the Blue Hill Peninsula. She was an avid sailor and during her youth won several summer race series/trophies at the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club.

Dixie’s true passion was flowers and creative flower arrangements, winning multiple blue ribbons at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Dixie was a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, a member and judge for the Garden Club of America, The Weeders, as well as the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, Old Eagle Garden Club, and the Blue Hill Garden Club.

Dixie is survived by her husband, Robert D. Chapman; her sons James Alexander Boyd Chapman and his wife, Mayela of Missouri City, Texas; John Dixon Chapman and his wife, April of Blue Hill, Maine; four grandchildren, Sarah and Alexander Chapman of Missouri City, Texas, Tyler and Evan Chapman of Blue Hill, Maine.

The family would like to thank Debbie and Courtney for the wonderful care that they have given to Dixie. Dixie was blessed to have you as her “second family”.

A private graveside service will occur later this month at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wayne, PA. There will be a celebration of life with family and friends later this summer in Blue Hill.

Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 330 Hinckley Ridge Road, Blue Hill, 04614 or to the Blue Hill Garden Club, PO Box 1118, Blue Hill, 04614.
