Joan M. Magiera Obituary

MAGIERA, Joan M. (Picard), 81, of Park Street, West Warwick, passed away unexpectedly at home Friday morning, May 5, 2023.

Joan was the beloved wife of David J. Magiera for sixty-one wonderful years.  She was born on January 26, 1942 to the late Rita (Picard) McCabe. She was a lifelong resident of West Warwick residing in her family homestead for most of her life.

Joan was a graduate of West Warwick High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She began her career and spent ten years as an LPN at Kent Hospital.  In 1968, Joan and David purchased Cardin’s Drug Store in Phenix.  For the next 20 years, Joan and her hospitality shaped the success of their business. After closing Cardin’s in 1988, Joan joined the team at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich where she cared for patients until retiring in 2006.

Joan loved flowers, all kinds, but none more than the ones her husband grew for her each summer.  She was known for picking Zinnias from her garden and sharing with her family and friends.

The role of Gramma to her 4 granddaughters was one of her greatest joys.  She loved and adored each of her girls unconditionally.  Spending time with them, amazed by all their triumphs, was her favorite pastime.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Dimity Magiera, Deborah Magiera, David Magiera and Mark Magiera and his wife Kara; two siblings, John McCabe (Susan) and Kathleen Foss (William); four granddaughters, Alexis Langevin (Paul), Abigail, Brianna and Addison Magiera; two great granddaughters, Chloe and Camryn Langevin and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. SS. John and James Church, Washington Street, West Warwick.  Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.  Information and condolences, please visit: www.PrataGallogly.com
