Funeral Service - Anneliese Du Toit

Passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at the age of 66 years, Anneliese Du Toit (nee Spies) of Baldur, MB.

Anneliese was born in Worcester, South Africa, under the towering mountains of the Breederivier valley. She and her identical twin sister, Annemarie, grew up surrounded by the town's rose garden, a flower she loved so abundantly in life. She raised her four children in a Cape Dutch farmhouse on Ryssel, a vineyard sheltered by great oaks.  There she fostered her profound love for trees and nature.

After her children left home, she never shied away from adventure, travelling often and wide: Canada, Spain, the US, her beloved Portugal and the immortal Matjiesfontein in the Karoo.
She cherished and shared a wide range of good music, was a ferocious, versatile reader, and remained an eager learner, filling her heart and mind with Portuguese language and culture for most of her life.

After bravely immigrating to the most welcoming community of Manitoba, she came to love the sprawling beauty and friendliness of Canada as her new, and final home.

She is painfully missed, leaves precious memories and is forever loved.

Anneliese leaves to mourn her passing four children Merle (Francois) Gie of Baldur, MB, Phoebe (Stuart) Barton of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Pieter Du Toit (Elena) of Barcelona, Spain, Hendrik Du Toit of Vancouver, BC, six grandchildren Annelouise, Alexander, Jonathan, Graham, Adam & Juliette.

She is also survived by her twin sister Annemarie Fourie of South Africa, brother Heinrich Spies also of South Africa, her children’s father Daniel Du Toit of Paisley, ON as well as numerous extended relatives and friends in South Africa.

Anneliese was predeceased by her parents Hekkie & Elize Spies and half-sister Merle Spies.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Baldur United Church with Rev. Irene Onuch officiating.  Interment will take place in the Baldur Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the RM of Argyle, Box 40, Baldur, MB, R0K 0B0 noted to benefit the Argyle Museum or to a charity of choice.
