Annette L. Clough Obituary

Norway - Annette L. Clough – Hebron’s oldest resident passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2023. She was born on March 25th, 1922 the daughter of Sylvia and Arthur Lapham. Annette grew up in Norway and graduated from Norway High School. After graduating (the same month), she married the love of her life, Robert C. Clough. They were married for 60 years before Robert passed away in 2000.

In 1943, they moved to Hebron where they raised their 5 children, whom were all born at home. In 2005 the Advertiser Democrat ‘Real People’ article interviewed Annette, when they asked what she remembers about giving birth at home she said I remember every one of them.

Annette was a stay at home mother until the kids were older. She then took a job at Hebron Academy that was going to be for nine weeks to help in the housekeeping department. She retired from Hebron Academy after working for 35 years where she eventually became the head of housekeeping.

Annette was also very involved in the town of Hebron affairs while her husband was selectman. She managed the Surplus Food Program out of their house. The food would be delivered to their house and she would package it up for those in need. She also helped Robert with the bookkeeping while he was on the board of selectmen.

Annette was above all a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great grandmother. She was very crafty in all areas. She loved, wood working and took a lot of pride in the wood working class that she took, where she made many pieces of furniture. She enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, gardening and knitting. Often knitting, mittens and hats for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Annette was an amazing cook and always enjoyed making the biggest of meals for her family. They all loved her parker house rolls and could not eat just one. Annette looked forward to making Chex mix and giving it out to the trick or treaters on Halloween. She also helped her daughter and granddaughter make needhams every year around the holidays.

After retirement, Annette and her husband enjoyed traveling in their motor home including their trips to Alaska. Her family often laughed about the VCR videos they took with miles after miles of open roads and very little conversation. While traveling they made many friends along the way many of who they kept in touch with for years.

Annette loved to share story after story to friends, neighbors and strangers. Everyone was welcome at her house to enjoy some of her home cooked meals.

Annette was pre-deceased by her husband, son Jimmy, her brother Alan, sister Gertrude, her grandson Robert Hill and son in law Maynard Trundy Jr.

She is survived by her son Benjamin Clough (Joanne) of Hebron, daughter Pamela Arey (Delbert) of Harrison, son William Clough (Joan) of Hebron, daughter Susan Trundy (John Bay) of Minot. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, Craig, Steve, Linda, Jennifer, Karen, Scott, Aaron, Adam and Sarah. Annette has 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. As well as by her family, Annette will be sadly missed by at home caretaker Martha Bumpus as well as her nieces and nephews and her four-legged companion for the past 15 years “Banks”.

The family would like to thank the staff of Market Square Health Care Center for their excellent care. A graveside service will be held at Norway Pine Grove in South Paris on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00am.
