Renee Iris Covill Obituary

Renee Iris Covill,

age 97, of Hacketts Cove, passed away on Friday April 28, 2023 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in London, UK, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie Clarkson. Survived by her son Robert (Karen Saunders), Fletchers Lake; daughters Janet (Lorne) Simpson, Dartmouth, Jill, Upper Clements, Anne, Granville Centre; daughter in-law, Joanne, Glen Margaret; grandchildren, Michael, Alistair, Erin, Chris, Shawn, Christine, John and Steven; great grandchildren, Ross, Sarah, Anjali and Naren. Predeceased by her loving husband Dennis; sons Ronald and Alan; brother Bill and sister Maisie. During her school days, Renee was known as “old 6-foot,” where she excelled at competitive sports, playing field hockey, netball, rounders and tennis. She grew up in wartime London and met her sweetheart Dennis in 1942. She and Dennis shared a bright orange tandem and had many cycling adventures around the UK countryside. In 1955, Renee and Dennis emigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Hacketts Cove, Nova Scotia. Renee was a dedicated homemaker, a loving and devoted mother, who lived for her family. She carried on her love of athletics with her children, always available for a game of backyard softball. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles, birdwatching, knitting, needlepoint, quilting, square dancing and volunteering as a Brownie leader. She always maintained her great sense of humour, sharp wit and even enjoyed the occasional rude limerick. For the last several years, Renee received loving care from her 3 “ladies-in-waiting,” Lee, Mary and Bernice. She will be greatly missed. Following Renee’s wishes, there will be no service. Donations can be made to the Salvation Army, BrigadoonVillage or a Charity of Choice. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca. We miss you mom.
