Joan Dorothy Taphouse

Age 89, It is with sadness that we the family of Joan Dorothy Taphouse ( Dorey ) announce her passing on Friday, April 28,2023 with family by her side. Born in Halifax , she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Bertha ( Dauphinee) Dorey. Joan is predeceased by her husband, Norman Taphouse and her loving big sister, Betty Dauphinee. At the age of 10 Joan began a lifelong love for figure skating and power skating. In 1990 she was invited to the World Figure Skating Championships to be part of the opening and closing numbers; The Victorian Years,-her thrill of a lifetime. Joan worked for the Province of Nova Scotia for many years. She loved gardening and lunches with her friends, shopping and trips with her daughter. Joan leaves behind her son, Chris (Wendy); beloved granddaughters, Bryanna and Kailey; daughter, Shirley Anne (Paul) MacDonald; nephew, Robert (Janice) Dauphinee and daughter Laura; son, Peter (Holly) Taphouse and daughter Ashley; her niece, Maureen and family. A very special thank you to her longtime friend; Suzanne, thanks for all the love you give to our family, and to her neighbor David, we thank you for everything you have done. A very special thank you to the Palliative care team especially Tea Meeson for your support and heartfelt love to our Mom. A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2023 in the Ronald A.
