Nancy Jean Hilgenbrink Obituary

Nancy Jean Hilgenbrink, 61 of Oswego, formerly of Aurora, passed away on April 29, 2023, at Central DuPage Hospital. Nancy was born on January 22, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois to Simon and Joan (nee Cohan) Handzik.

Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, Nancy attended Seton Academy (Elizabeth Seton High School) and furthered her education at Western Illinois University, graduating in 1984. Nancy worked in the insurance industry, having a successful career as a recovery specialist with AIG. She married Thomas Hilgenbrink 38 years ago at Queen of Apostles Church in Riverdale, IL. 

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially ladies’ night out playing bingo, participating in trivia nights, or just enjoying the company of a close friend. She could often be found scrolling the pages of marketplace finding just the right piece to buy or to sell. She doted over her dogs Riley and Delilah, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her daughters whom she loved with all of her heart. 

Nancy is survived by her devoted husband Thomas Hilgenbrink; daughters Casey (Colton Wolff) Hilgenbrink, Genavieve (Garet Lee) Hilgenbrink and Nicole Hilgenbrink; her parents Simon and Catherine Handzik; siblings Raymond (Heidi) Nabzdyk, Mary Anne (Rich) Mikota, Ken (Kat) Handzik, Mary Claire (Jerry) Hauser, Marge (Sandy) Nabzdyk, Marcie (Don) Barnett  Eileen (Dan) Durand, Carol (Harlan) Weivoda, Ronald(Mui) Nabzdyk, Madeline Nabzdyk, Paul (Debbie) Handzik, Cathy (Rick) Zamora and John (Jackie) Handzik; sister-in-law Kathy (Mike) Dragel; brothers-in-law John Hilgenbrink, Mark (Kim) Hilgenbrink and Jim (Therese Colby) Hilgenbrink and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Corey, mother Joan, sister-in-law Mary Hilgenbrink Patton, father-in-law John Hilgenbrink and mother-in-law Elaine Hilgenbrink.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 4, 2024 4:00-8:00 pm at Bauman Family Funeral Home 5600 U.S. Highway 34 Oswego, IL. 60543. Family and friends are asked to Gather Friday May 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. for the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church 701 S Eola Rd, Aurora, IL. Private Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL.
