Avis Lee Reid Athens, Texas Obituary

Avis Lee Reid

Avis Lee Reid, 77, of Emory, Texas, was swept into the arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ on December 8, 2017. Avis graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from West Texas A&M University and retired from working as an auditor for Texas Department of Transportation. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs and sang with enthusiasm in their choir. Avis loved to dance and spent several nights each week “cutting the rug” with friends at square dances and western dances. She greatly enjoyed traveling with her daughters and friends, and was always busy planning her next great adventure. Avis spent her quiet days working in her yard, sewing on quilts and watching the birds out her back window. She was known for an infectious smile and the mischievous twinkle that was always in her eyes. Her greatest sources of joy were her Lord Jesus Christ, her family and the lovely bouquet of friends she had gathered on her life’s journey. Avis was born to Sam and Irene Janzen in Ochiltree County, Texas on October 18, 1940. She is survived by three daughters, Kande Gayle McNeill and her husband Mark of Bangs, Texas; Kristi Bronson Willis and her husband Daniel of Tallahassee, Florida; and Kimberly Pierce and her husband Tom of Emory, Texas; two brothers, Ernest Janzen of Perryton, Texas and Robert Janzen and his wife Shirley of Amarillo, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Duncan McNeill and his wife Makenzie of College Station, Texas; Shannon McNeill of Brownwood, Texas; Tricia Bronson of Tallahassee, Florida; Sara Beth Bronson of Lubbock, Texas; Marshall Pierce of Orange Park, Florida; and Rachel Pierce and Katie Beth Pierce of Emory, Texas. Visitation will be held at the Spence Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Saturday, December 16th, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A graveside ceremony will be held at a later date at Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Gideon’s International for Bibles or Samaritan’s Purse; Avis loved the Lord and loved others well.
